Monish Poojary, Diandra Valladares BAG sprint golds

Mumbai : Monish Poojary from Sprinters Club and Diandra Valladares from Vashi’s Agnel Gymkhana were crowned the men’s and women’s 100m sprints champions on the second day of the India Masters Athletics 5-District Track & Field Championships, at the University Stadium on Friday.

Monish eclipsed the old timing  of 11.1 seconds by winning gold in 10.96 seconds, while Diandra triumphed in12.59 seconds.

Navi Mumbai’s Deepu Devrajan broke the men’s 800m in a thrilling finish, while Nidhi Singh, of Achievers SC, Thane swept the field in the girls under-18 800m event In fact, the men’s event saw all the first  three –  Deepu (2:02.40 secs), Uran’s Praful Humnb (2.02.86) and Achievers’ Darshan Devrurkar (2:10.52) improving  upon the old record of 2:12.4 secs. The day, like the opening day saw as many nine new records established.

However, there was no such tension for Nidhi, virtually just flew of the blocks to win the girls under-18 event in new record timing of 2:31.67 secs, leaving the rest of the field way behind.

Apoorva Gaghare, another girls from Achievers Sports club, Thane, brook no oppositions as she won the girls under-18 100m hurdles in style.
