Mumbai : Manushree Patil of Mumbai Suburban fashioned exciting wins to storm into the women’s and youth girls’ quarter-finals, in the JVPG 3rd Maharashtra State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana, on Thursday.
Enjoying peak form, unseeded Patil kicked off a rewarding day when she first stunned fifth seed Shruti Amrute of Thane 11-3, 11-8, 11-9, 12-10 in an absorbing women’s pre-quarter-final. As the youth girls top seed, Patil later escaped to a thrilling 4-3 win over a gallant Vaibhavi Kher of Pune 11-13, 9-11, 7-11, 11-1, 11-6, 11-3, 12-10, after rallying from 0-3.
Kher initiated the opportunity for one of the biggest upsets in the competition but squandered the envious advantage, as Patil staged a spectacular recovery to take the match away.
Ashlesha Trehan of Mumbai Suburban also enjoyed a rewarding day while advancing to the women’s and youth girls’ quarter-finals. Unseeded Shreya Deshpande of Thane registered the other significant upset when she rallied from 0-2 to prevail over Amrute, seeded fourth, 5-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-4, 11-2 in the youth girls’ pre-quarter-finals. Women’s top seed Senhora D’Souza and second seed Divya Deshpande were the other significant winners to enter the quarter-finals.
