Mumbai : Men’s top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar and second seed Ravi Dixit eased into the semi-finals, in the JSW 41st Bombay Gymkhana Maharashtra State Open Squash Championships, on Tuesday.
Favourite Mangaonkar overcame Vrishab Kotian with a 11-6, 5-11, 14-12, 11-8 win after dropping the second game and enduring a stiff challenge in the third, while Tamil Nadu’s Dixit halted Abhinav Sinha of Pune with a 11-3, 11-2, 11-8 win. In the semi-finals, Mangaonkar will take on Sandeep Jangra, while Dixit will face Gaurav Nandrajog.
Seeded 5/8, Prithvi Singh of Chandigarh shocked top seed Advait Adik 6-11, 11-2, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 in a thriller that could have gone either way, to enter the boys under-15 final where he will take on second seed Neel Joshi who halted Delhi’s Sankalp Anand with a hard-fought 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 win, after Anand earlier upset formidable Navneeth Prabhu of Tamil Nadu in the quarter-finals. Seeded 5/8, Veer Chotrani upset second seed Aryan Parekh 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-4 in another thriller to enter the boys under-17 final. Chotrani will take on top seed Tushar Shahani who earned a hard-fought 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 win over Rutvik Rau.
Second seed Diksha Aurobindo of Tamil Nadu advanced to the girls’ under-13 final, while top seed Aryaman Adik made it to the boys’ under-19 championship round.
