Indore : First collector of the city Narayan Singh passes away

Indore: First collector of Indore and senior most IAS officer of the state, Thakur Narayan Singh passed away on Wednesday. He was 101.

He suffered heart attack about two days ago and was hospitalised in a local hospital where he took his last breath on Wednesday morning.

Eldest son of Amargarh Kila Jagirdar Ram Singh, Narayan Singh was born on March 24, 1916. After completing his schooling at Daly College, Narayan Singh went to London for higher studies.

He obtained law degree from London University and returned to the country. An IAS of 1951 batch, Narayan Singh served as collector in Indore, Bhind, Ujjain and Gwalior.

He had played a crucial role in formation of Dewas district. He was also the first administrator of Indore Municipal Corporation. During his tenure as administrator, first elections of IMC were held. He had retired on September 24, 1974 as commissioner of Jabalpur division.
