Rio de Janeiro : India were left seeking their first medal of the Rio Olympics after suffering further setbacks on day seven with the elimination of archer Atanu Das, rifle shooters Gagan Narang and Chain Singh and shuttlers from men’s and women’s doubles.

— ARCHERY —

The day commenced with Atanu Das letting slip chances in his men’s individual recurve pre-quarterfinal to bow out of contention and draw curtains on India’s fruitless campaign in archery.

— SHOOTING —

There was no end to the Indian shooters’ Olympic Games misery as 2012 edition’s bronze medal winner Gagan Narang and Chain Singh failed to qualify for the 50m Rifle Prone event.

India’s skeet shooter Mairaj Ahmad Khan struggled on the opening day of the men’s skeet qualifying event as he finished at lowly 10th place.

— BADMINTON —

The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy suffered a straight game loss to China’s Chai Biao and Hong Wei in the second match of Group D to draw curtains on India’s badminton doubles campaign.

Earlier, the experienced pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were eliminated from women’s doubles event after losing their second successive group A clash.
