Mumbai : Indian Navy banking on their better fitness and stamina managed to cruise past Union Bank of India by a 4-1 margin in their opening Super Division fixture of the MHAL (Mumbai Hockey Association Limited) League – 2016, and played at the MHAL Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate on Tuesday.
In a not too exiting encounter, the Navy outfit fielding some new recruits, were not at their usual attacking best and had to wait till the 34th minute to open the scoring through Pawan Raj Bir’s field goal. Immediately after resumption, Ashish Bhosle with a peach of an effort found the equalizer for Union Bank in the 36th minute, but Navy soon regained the lead when seasoned Ved Prakash scored from a field effort in the 40th minute. Thereafter, both sides wasted a couple of chances, before the sailors hit the target twice in quick succession in the final six minutes.
