New Delhi : Former test cricketer and suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad now wants the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the allegations that he has been making against the Delhi District Cricket Association. But he is at pains to establish that his fight is not against any particular person but is about corruption in sports. In an interaction media, Azad rejected the party’s charge that he has indulged in anti-party activities. “It has nothing to do with the BJP. It is about corruption in sports. I have been fighting against corruption in sports for years and will continue to do so,” he told the media. “Don’t bring Arun Jaitley into this.” It is worth mentioning that Azad had raked the issue in the previous winter session of Parliament and was suspended for firing allegations against the union finance minister Arun Jaitley.
The former test cricketer said that he had “evidence” of corruption in the Delhi & District Cricket Association – especially about a few-month old companies being given contracts worth crores of rupees which he was willing to share with the agency. He claimed he had shared the evidence with the then DDCA head, a reference to Jaitley, but nothing happened. Questioning the CBI’s decision to send notices to the DDCA instead of raiding it, Azad charged that attempts were being made to hide “corruption”.
Considering that the Kejriwal government in Delhi has ordered an enquiry, Azad also offered to share the information with them. “If they call me, I will definitely go. It is not a big thing. It is a government commission, not a private commission. It is set up in accordance with the rules and if I am called then I will definitely go,” he said. Naming a number of private firms which, he alleged, made money through illegal means, he asked his detractors to find out if they really existed as he wondered if this was not “fraud”. “I want to ask those who are throwing muck at me that where are these companies? Double and triple payments were made,” the three-time MP from Darbhanga alleged.
