Thane : The lone survivor of the macabre attack is Hansil Warekar’s 22-year-old sister Sabia Yusuf Bharmal. Sabia’s loud screams — ‘‘Bhaijann has gone on a killing spree’’ — and the sound of the utensils that she was banging to rouse the neighbours brought some youngsters to her doorstep and they rescued her after breaking open a window grill. Bleeding profusely in the upper part of the throat, where it had been slit, she was rushed to a local hospital. The traumatized

survivor, who has received 25 stitches on her neck, is clueless about the motive for the murder. But her account will be critical in reconstructing the events of the day till the household went to sleep.

Special branch constable Meera Madhurkar, who took Sabia’s statement, told ANI that her brother had no problems with the other family members.

He had called the entire family for a special dinner and there had been no conflict that night. He was also normal towards his parents and wife.

‘‘She said that she had no idea why her brother massacred them all. I could not ask her much as she is still in a state of trauma,” Madhurkar said to the wire agency. Sabia also lost her child in the massacre.
