Indore : The MY Hospital is once again in news for wrong reason when family members of girl students reached the hospital to lodge complaint against a hospital staff.

Sources said that a peon of the physiotherapy department had allegedly served cold-dinks laced with intoxicants to four girl students on September 8. He even locked them in the department and forced them to take the cold drink.

The matter came to light when the family members of a girl reached there and created a ruckus on the day.

On Thursday, parents of the victims approached the faculty of Physiotherapy Department to protest the unsavoury incident.

According to college sources, the incident took place on September 8 i.e, Anant Chaturdashi and the World Physiotherapy Day.

A small celebration was organised in the department, situated in the basement of new OPD building of MY Hospital to observe ‘World Physiotherapy Day’. After the celebration, four students second year were stopped by peon Fernandez and offered them ‘ladoo’ as prasad on Anant Chaturdashi. After finding the ‘ladoo’ sour, the girls did not consume them, so Fernandez offered them cold drinks which too tasted sour. “Smelling fishy, the girls refused to take the drink. Then, the accused locked them in the department and forced them to drink with an excuse that it is an order by Vice-Principal Dr Meena.” “Frightened by the incident, one of the girls called her parents after which Fernandez opened the channel gate and fled from the scene.

The family members of the girls created a ruckus on the same day but they couldn’t lodge their complaint as it was holiday. Kin of the girls reached the college on Wednesday and Thursday to protest the matter,” sources said.

College admn hiding the matter

After the ruckus created by the family members, a chaos like situation prevailed in the department and the faculties have taken a decision to install CCTV camera in the department and also demanded deployment of female guards in the department at noon.

“Fernandez has apologised for his fault in front of the victims’ families after which the college administration assured them that the incident won’t be repeated. However, the kin approached the faculties, on Thursday to lodge their complains that some more people are also involved in the matter,” sources added.

Not an isolated incident

The college insiders said that teasing with girl students is common in the department but this matter came to light as a peon was involved. The department didn’t have any washroom as it is connected with the orthopaedics departments due which the girls are bound to use the washroom in the office and eve teasing cases take place there.
