Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Madhav Nagar police on Monday claimed to have busted a racket involving 7 miscreants and recovered 24 bikes from their possession which were stolen from different places of the district. A complainant reported at police station that on January 27 in front of Jain temple, Freeganj at 12 am an unknown thief broke the handle lock and stole his bike.

A case under Section 303(2) of BNS was registered against the unknown accused and investigation was taken up. A separate team was formed under the leadership of TI Rakesh Bharti and reliable informers were deployed and CCTV footage of the incident spot was searched. To curb the incidents, vehicle checking was being done in police station areas by setting up static points.

During checking, the team stopped suspicious drivers and took information about the suspicious vehicle, but when the suspects did not provide correct information and documents about the vehicle, the team detained and interrogated them on the basis of available technical evidence.

The suspects confessed to stealing a bike from the Jain temple. The bike was seized from the accused. Since the arrested accused were found to have a stolen vehicle, different teams were formed and the accused were interrogated psychologically.

The accused also said that they along with their other accomplices have committed vehicle thefts in Ingoria, Tarana, Jharda police station of Ujjain district and bordering districts Dewas, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Ratlam and Indore districts along with three other accomplices and a juvenile offender. Police said, the accused are habitual vehicle thieves, who target two-wheelers parked outside public places and houses during day and night.

They used to break the lock of two wheeler and tamper with the wiring and start them without keys and take them through lonely roads of city and countryside. The accused used to change registration number, engine number, chassis number of vehicles and used it themselves and sold it in nearby areas at low price.

The arrested accused include Anil (22), resident of Rulki, Shajapur, Mahendra (20), resident of Rulki, Jagdish (20), resident of Rajakhedi, Jaora, Ratlam, Savin (21), resident of Rulki, Sitaram (50), resident of Rulki, Birendra (28), resident of Rulki and a juvenile delinquent aged 17 years, resident of Rulki, police station Bairchha, district Shajapur.
