Indore : Not satisfied with the reply of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) to a petition challenging the proposed construction of Riverside Corridor on the banks of Khan River, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday sought a detailed map disclosing the points from were sewerage flow into the river by August 25.
In March this year, social activist Kishore Kodwani had filed a petition before the Tribunal claiming that the project was being implemented in violation of environmental norms and without permission from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
He also stated that the Allahabad High Court in 2012 had passed a judgement in a case stating that around 200 metre areas on both sides of the river should be made free from encroachment and turned into a green area to maintain ecological balance.
If the Riverside Corridor project in its present form is executed, then it will be contempt as well, Kodwani added.
The Khan River has total length of 210 km, of which the Corridor is being constructed on 14.40 km long stretch on the banks of the River at the layout of Rs 315.39 crore.
The initial tender has been floated for construction of the Corridor on 8.80 km and remaining work is expected to be completed in two phases.
