Indore : The National Cadet Corps (NCC), Indore Group Headquarter, is planning to expand its strength and add around 30000 new cadets by starting new battalions.
Currently, Indore group of NCC has the strength of 18000 cadets which will be increased to 38000 cadets along with establishing new battalions in Barwani and Mhow, NCC Group Commander Brig Rajan Kochar said on Tuesday.
“We are going to expand the strength of NCC from 15 lakh to 25 lakh nationally and from 18000 cadets to 38000 cadets in Indore group headquarters in two phases,” he told reporters.
In the first phase, a new battalion for girls will be established in Indore. The Indore group will increase the strength of five companies and squadrons of Indore into battalions by adding more cadets in them. “At present we have five battalions and five companies,” Brig Kochar said.
The NCC Indore Group is also seeking support from the Army Adventure Cell, Mhow, to give exposure to the NCC cadets of adventure sports like hot air ballooning, parasailing and trekking.
Along with strengthening the NCC, Brigadier Kochar said that more than 16000 cadets of Indore Group will participate in the attempt of World Record for performing Yoga on the first International Day for Yoga on June 21.
“4000 cadets will gather in Nehru Stadium, Indore and similarly in Ujjain, Ratlam and Khandwa to perform Yoga at the same day and same time for attempting the world record,” he added.
Brigadier Kochar said that the number of new cadets joining NCC has been decreasing due to lack of motivation. Similarly, number of cadets opting for being an Army officer is also very low.
“State Governments should start some incentives for the cadets to motivate them for joining NCC. There are many incentive schemes for the cadets in southern states and other states should also come forward for the same,” he said.
“Our main aim is to motivate youths to join Army. NCC Indore Group will fund 10 cadets for their SSB coaching and once they get selected, NCC will seek government’s support to motivate others in same way,” he added.
