Indore : The Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court, on Tuesday directed the police to register an FIR within 24 hours against the policemen, who thrashed an advocate who had gone to Pandrinath police station to lodge his protest against the highhandedness of police during anti- encroachment drive on the banks of Khan River, on Monday.
The ruling of the court comes on a petition filed by the Indore High Court Bar Association.
The association sought an FIR against the cops who had bashed up Advocate Hemant Parmar allegedly for no reason. Their one-point request was heeded and the court ordered for filing of FIR against the policemen involved in the incident.
However, no FIR was registered against any cop till filing of this report.
SP, West D Kalyan Chakrawarti said that he had received a copy of the court’s order and instructed the Pandrinath police to book the accused cops.
Residents of CP Shekhar Nagar had gone on rampage when a 25-year-old youth was killed while knocking down wall of his house located on the banks of Khan River.
The residents also pelted stones on the police and removal gang of the IMC forcing the men in Khaki to resort to lathi-charge.
At least eight persons including policemen were injured in the violence. FIRs under different sections against people involved in the clashes were registered but no case was filed against the cops.
Magisterial probe ordered
ADM Dilip Kumar to conduct probe
District Magistrate P Narahari on Tuesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the CP Shekhar Nagar violence incident and ADM Dilip Kumar will conduct the probe and submit the report within 15 days.
The ugly incident occurred when the IMC was shifting dwellers to the flats. A 25-year-old man was killed when a portion wall fell upon him on Monday last.
After the incident, the enraged dwellers tried to disrupt the traffic by staging a chakka jam at Pandhrinath Square and also raised slogans. They also pelted stones on IMC’s Harsidhi Zone office and Pandhrinath police station and damaged property and set vehicles on fire.
During the rioting, an advocate was allegedly thrashed by the police, forcing members of the Bar to demand for an FIR against the police personnel.
However, the Collector ordered a magisterial inquiry and gave the task to ADM Dilip Kumar.
