A 25-year-old youth, a suspect in theft case, died in police custody in Gandhi Nagar on Tuesday. The youth was allegedly beaten up by the police. A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the case. Reports said 25-year-old Sanju, a resident of Rijhlay village, was detained by the police on suspicion of theft. The police allegedly beat him up during questioning. When his condition started deteriorating the police admitted him to a hospital where he died.
Rajubai, Sanju’s sister, said that her brother and mother Nandibai were detained by the Gandhi Nagar police in connection with theft. She said that they were beaten up during questioning. In the meantime Sanju’s condition started deteriorating and he was admitted to MY Hospital. Sanju died during treatment in the hospital, she added.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ruchi Vardhan Mishra said that Sanju was detained in connection with thefts which took place on April 16 and April 20 in Arihant Nagar. He was questioned by the Gandhi Nagar police and when his condition deteriorated he was rushed to MY Hospital where he died during treatment. SSP said that police station incharge has been suspended and judicial inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
