Indore: It was a proud moment for city on International Women’s Day. Captain Shruti Sharma who received training from Indore flew Air India flight with all-women crew from Mumbai to New Delhi on Friday. Overwhelmed with achievement of Captain Shruti, Air India posted her photo of piloting the AI Mumbai- New Delhi on its official Facebook page. Air India, the national carrier of India, honoured women in a unique way. The captain of the flight was Shruti Sharma and co-pilot was D Menzes. Other crew members were BK Smita, Dcruz, Deepa and Shital while technician was Tejasweeni. The flight completed its journey in 2.20 hours.
Captain Shruti belongs to Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. Coming from a middle class background and no aviation expert in the family, she had a dream of joining aviation sector hence started her career as aircraft maintenance engineer. She then trained to be a pilot from The MP Flying Club in Indore. She cleared Air India examination in first attempt and got selected in 2016. At present, she is based in Mumbai and has an experience of more than 1300 hours of flying Airbus A-320.
Talking to Free Press, Captain Shruti said she flew an Air India plane on International Women Day last year too. “It felt great. It was well-appreciated by all,” she said.
