Indore: Lokayukta police on Tuesday conducted raids on premises of a woman assistant commercial tax officer and unearthed assets worth crores of rupees, which are stated to be disproportionate to her known sources of income. Lokayukta police superintendent Savyasachi Saraf said sleuths swooped down on Komal Bali’s houses in Ushaganj, Chhawani at 6 pm following a complaint that she amassed huge property through illegal means.
The raid discovered that Bali and her family own two houses, a big farmhouse, 45 tolas of gold and 1.2 kgs of silver jewellery, an expensive car and two two-wheelers. The sleuths found cash of Rs 53,000 and details of Rs 5 lakh in bank accounts. Lokayukta police sources said they have information that Balis hold 18 bank accounts.
“We are taking details about the amount of money in the accounts,” sources said. When Lokayukta police sleuths searched the two-storey house of Bali at Ushaganj, they came to know that she also owns a house on 2,400 square feet of plot in the same locality.
The documents revealed that house cost Rs 70.55 lakh. The sleuths discovered that she also owns a farmhouse on 2.5 bighas of land in Sanawadiya,which was purchased at a cost of Rs 9.7 lakh. As per information, total worth of her assets found so far is Rs 1.41 crore whereas her income so far through salary is between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh.
Bali joined the state government service in 2006 as an inspector in commercial tax department. She was promoted as assistant commercial tax officer in 2012. A case has been registered against Bali under Prevention of Corruption Act. Evaluation of Bali’s assets and detailed investigation is underway, the officer said.
