Indore: Swine flu toll keeps mounting, officials in a tizzy

Indore: Three more deaths due to Swine flu on Tuesday have sent the health department officials on a tizzy as all their efforts to control the menace proved ‘ineffective.’ However, the department officials claimed that the deceased belonged to other districts and were getting treatment in various hospitals here in the city. According to integrated diseases surveillance programme in-charge, Dr Santosh Sisodiya, “A 40-year-old male, resident of Shajapur, succumbed to the disease in MY Hospital on Tuesday while a 49-year-old female, resident of Mandsaur, died of the disease in MY Hospital and a 51-year-old male resident of Burhanpur, succumbed to the disease on Monday.”

The resident of Shajapur, was admitted to the hospital on March 5 and was tested positive on March 7. Similarly, the patient of Mandsaur was admitted to the hospital on March 7 and the patient of Burhanpur was admitted to the hospital on February 23.  With new deaths, toll of deaths in city reached to 32 while the number of positive patients reached to 119, since January 1. The number of death in last two-months is more than the double of total deaths last year. In 2018, the total number of deaths by the deadly disease was 9 while it was 38 in 2017.

About 100 patients of cough and cold daily in government hospitals
On the orders of Health Minister Tulsi Silawat, the department has started reporting the cases of cough and cold as well. “For last one week, we are reporting the patients of cough and cold in government hospitals including primary health centres and community health centres.

On an average 2400-2500 patients are coming to the hospitals everyday and the number of patients suffering from cough and cold are abuoy 98-100 everyday,” in-charge of swine flu control room Sunil Sahu said. He added that they have directed the officials in every health centre to take follow up of the suspected patients and to diagnose them before it’s too late.
