Indore (Madhya Pradesh): As the city sizzles under the intense summer heat with temperatures soaring beyond 40°C, a significant citizen-friendly initiative has been taken to provide relief to commuters waiting at traffic signals.

In a mayor-in-council meeting held on Friday under the leadership of mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, the Indore Municipal Corporation approved a plan to set up temporary shaded structures and provide drinking water at 28 major traffic signals across the city. This initiative will be carried out with active public participation.

Under this plan, local social organizations, institutions, and business establishments will be invited to contribute by installing the shaded structures and arranging free drinking water.

Participating entities will be allowed to display their organisation’s name and logo on the front and back of the sheds under the “Courtesy of” section. Displaying the Indore Municipal Corporation’s name and logo prominently will be mandatory.

It has been clearly stated that no commercial advertisements or promotions of private companies will be permitted under this scheme.

The shaded points will offer free drinking water to citizens, and interested organisations or businesses can register their participation to support this public service. The responsibility for maintenance, cleanliness, and supply of clean drinking water will lie with the respective participating organisations.

To ensure the quality of the water being served, the Municipal Corporation may also request water quality test certificates from the organisations involved.

A special monitoring committee has been formed to oversee the effective implementation of the initiative. Niranjan Singh Chauhan and Nandkishore Pahadia have been appointed as members of this committee, with additional officials to be announced soon by the Municipal Commissioner. The committee will conduct regular reviews of the cleanliness, utility, and service standards of these facilities.
