Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya executive council on Friday constituted a four-member committee that has been tasked with suggesting way forward for construction of proposed medical college of university at Bada Bangarda.

The decision came after EC member Alok Dawar raised the issue saying what the university had thought about establishing medical college for which it had taken land from government in 2000. The government had allotted 50 acres land to DAVV 19 years ago for setting up medical college but not single brick has fallen onto that land till date.

In 2012, the district administration had taken back possession of half of the land and also threatened to take back the remaining portion also if the DAVV would not clear its intention to set up the medical college.

Customarily, the university makes provision of Rs 1 crore ever year’s budget but that amount remains unutilised. This year again, the university followed the custom in budget for fiscal 2019-20 but Dawar sought to known whether DAVV has plan to set up medical college or not.

The EC members stressed on the need for constructing the college and constituted a four-member committee comprising Ravi Verma, VB Gupta, Ashok Sharma and Panjre for giving recommendation on setting up medical college.

Huge amount approved for infra expansion

The DAVV executive council approved Rs 313 crore budget with deficit of Rs 57 crore. It approved huge amount for expansion of its infrastructure. The EC approved Rs 4 crore for expansion of International Institute of Professional Studies (IIPS), Rs 3 crore for constructing new block of Institute of Management Studies (IMS), Rs 3 crore for setting up building for Directorate of Distance Education, Rs 2 crore for construction of IET hostel, Rs 3 crore for new library, Rs 2 crore for vice chancellor and registrar’s residences.
