Indore: Psychology is a subject that involves study of mental faculties, functions and behaviours. Psychologists study things like reactions, emotions and behaviour of a person. Therefore, students are expected to have sharp studying skills. Here are smarter ways to boost up your knowledge and clear the exam with flying colours. Subject expert Roopsi Mehta imparts the tips

Marks allotted to different topics

Variations in psychological attributes – 9, Self and personality – 10,  Psychological disorders – 10,  Therapeutic approaches – 7, Attitude and social cognition – 8

Suggested studying pattern

Individual study: Your initial study sessions should take place alone. By doing this, you are able to concentrate on the contents better. Group study: Once you have a good grasp over the contents, go for review sessions with classmates or study groups. These sessions are a good way to refresh your knowledge before quiz. Solve sample papers/practice paper in order to know your answers well. Practice writing answers in your own words. This will help you phrase your words and answers correctly.

Tips for scoring good marks in class XII psychology

Be thorough with NCERT textbook, no extra book is required. There won’t be anything out of that book.  Don’t go for rot learning; attain clarity in your concepts because in the exam you can forget what you crammed but if your concepts are clear you can write the answer in your own language.  Underline important words in your answers so that they get highlighted.

Write a background in every answer. For example – in a question which asks Triarchic Theory of Intelligence you should first explain that what intelligence is. A background is to be written in every answer. They will fetch you marks.  Use as many flow charts as you can and use them for something, which is not asked.

For example – The question is (for 4 marks suppose) explain what is panic disorder? So first you’ll give a background of what are anxiety disorders then make a flow chart of types of anxiety disorders (don’t explain them) and then explain the panic disorder.

In 6-mark answers, there are 3 parts – the background, the answer and the conclusion (it is the shorter version of what you have written). All of them are important and carry marks.  If you can, then try to write neatly in first 3–4 pages. Neat, not good handwriting.
