Indore: Panic prevailed in District Hospital on Tuesday after fire broke out in doctor’s chamber in the hospital OPD.  Some pregnant women and children, admitted in the unit near the OPD, were shifted immediately. According to fire brigade officials, the fire broke out in the doctor’s chamber after short circuit in the AC.  “About 8 to 9 patients were admitted in the ward near the OPD while some of the patients were sitting outside the doctor’s chamber. We immediately shifted the children and got the hospital vacated,” Civil Surgeon Dr MP Sharma said.

The hospital was filled with smoke. Staff members tried to douse the fire with the help of fire extinguishers available on the spot. “Operation to douse the fire and rescue people took more than 40 minutes,” fire fighters said. The civil surgeon said that a major incident was averted due to timely action taken by the staff and fire fighters.

Construction work yet to start
District health department has shifted the District Hospital to Government PC Sethi Hospital and Hukumchand Polyclinic due to reconstruction of the hospital’s building. The hospital was vacated in January but construction work is yet to start. “The construction would be carried out by the PWD department. We will ask the PWD officials to start the work soon. The work will get a boost after model code of conduct is revoked,” Civil Surgeon Dr MP Sharma added.
