Indore: Madhya Pradesh education board collects Rs 83 crore as exam fee from 9 lakh students, earns Rs 73 crore extra

Class 10 MPBSE board examinations were cancelled due to coronavirus. The board is not considering to return the amount and instead enjoying profit earned from the examination fee.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) has collected over Rs 83.25 crore from over 9 lakh students as examination fee for class 10 board examination. Class 10 MPBSE board examinations were cancelled due to coronavirus second wave and its spread in the state.

However, the board is not considering to return the amount and instead enjoying profit earned from the examination fee. At present, preparations are on to declare results.

With cancellation of examination, the board has earned profit of Rs 73 crore. Actually, fee of Rs 925 per student was charged for filling class 10 examination form.

This year, over 10 lakh students were to take class 10 board examinations in the state. Out of this, if fee of one lakh students of reserved category is reduced, then too, the Board earned Rs 83 crore from nine lakh students as examination fee.

Even if the board has spent Rs 10 crore in preparing the question papers and answer books or sent the amount to the districts for practical exams, then too, MPBSE saved Rs 73 crore from the examination fee.

At the same time, MPBSE has issued an order to schools to order the amount allocated for the experimental examination to be deposited in board's account.

In view of this, Private Schools’ Association has asked board to return the examination fee to students.

Nearly Rs 10 crore spent

A divisional official wishing anonymity said the preparation for class 10 examination was completed. About Rs 1.5 crore were spent on question papers, Rs 5 crore on answer copies, Rs 1 crore on OMR sheets and Rs 3 crore on practical examinations. Apart from this, the examination form was also filled with late fee by one lakh students.

Rs 3 crore on practical examinations

For the practical examination of a student, the board sends Rs 30 to schools. In this way, an amount of Rs 3 crore was sent to schools for about 1 lakh students, which has now been ordered to return to MPBSE.

Rs 2.5 crore earned from laptop scheme

Laptops are distributed by the government to meritorious students in class 12 examination of MPBSE. For this, board gives about Rs. 1.5 crore to the government every year. But last year, laptops could not be distributed due to Covid-19. In this way, the board saved Rs 2.50 crore.

Number of class 10 students in MP - 10 lakh, 14 hundred and 75 only

Number of students of reserved category - 1 lakh

Examination fee per student - Rs 925

Examination fee of nine lakh students - Rs 83 crore

Expenditure in preparation of question paper - Rs. 1.5 crore.

Spending on answer copies – Rs 5 crore

Spending on OMR sheet – Rs 1 crore

Amount sent to districts for practical exams – Rs 3 crore

Spending on assessment – Rs 2 crore
