Sanctum sanctorum of Ranjit Hanuman temple in Indore |
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Devotees of Ranjit Hanuman will now get income tax exemption on the donated amount, as the temple has been registered as a charitable trust.
It is a major centre of faith in city. Located in Usha Nagar Extension, it is visited by hundreds of people, specially on Tuesdays and Saturdays. At present, it is closed due to corona curfew.
Like Khajrana temple, now devotees of Ranjit Hanuman will also be able to get income tax exemption on donated sum. The Income Tax Department has registered the temple as a religious and charitable trust and made a provision for income tax exemption from financial year 2020-21 to 2022-23.
For not paying taxes amounting to over Rs 26 lakh in the year of demonetisation, the income tax department had raised a demand notice of Rs 2 crore in December 2019. The case is still pending in court.
Following the notice, the then manager and sub divisional magistrate Ravi Singh applied for the temple to be exempted under Income Tax Act. District collector Manish Singh and current manager Pratul Sinha pushed the case.
“Donors who claim a waiver will receive it after a cross-check,” chartered accountant Abhay Verma said.
Only cash of Rs 2,000 acceptable
A devotee can give maximum of Rs 2,000 as donation in cash for the exemption. For higher amounts, devotees will be required to pay through cheque especially if they are seeking tax exemption.
Besides, devotee will have to collect the receipt at the donation counter and provide their PAN number. With this, devotees will be able to claim rebate in returns. The amount donated in the donation box will not be discounted, as it is categorised as a secret donation.
