Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A historic moment is set to unfold at Indore’s iconic Rajwada Palace as preparations are underway to host a special meeting of the State Cabinet on May 20, marking the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar.
For the first time ever, the State Cabinet will convene inside this royal-era heritage site, once the seat of the Holkar dynasty. The cabinet is expected to deliberate on issues related to public welfare, governance, and development schemes.
On Saturday, senior officials from the district administration and police visited Rajwada to review preparations. Among them were Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh, Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, Collector Asheesh Singh, IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma and Additional Police Commissioners Amit Singh and Manoj Shrivastava.
Rajwada is being decked out with a mix of traditional and modern decorations in memory of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. Floral arrangements, lighting, and vibrant cultural elements will give the venue a distinctive Malwi appearance, showcasing the region’s heritage both inside and outside the building.
Cabinet to pay tribute to Ahilyabai
The meeting will start with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and ministers garlanding the statue of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. The cabinet will then assemble on the ground floor of Rajwada, where discussions on development and good governance are scheduled.
Malwi welcome
Guests will be welcomed in Malwi tradition, and a traditional feast will be served on the first floor of Rajwada. Dishes like Dal-Baati, Dahi Bada and Mawa Baati will be part of the menu, highlighting local culinary flavours.
Temporary secretariat
A temporary secretariat is being set up within Rajwada premises to manage administrative functions during the event. Special police forces will be deployed for security and various officers have been assigned tasks related to transport, accommodation and event management.
Exhibition on Ahilyabai’s life
An exhibition showcasing the life and contributions of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar will be organised as part of the commemorative event, allowing visitors to explore her rich legacy.
