Static surveillance teams will be deployed at city airport and railways station to keep check on movement of unaccounted money during Lok Sabha elections. Election Commission has declared Indore district to be “sensitive” in terms of black money flow. In fact, Indore has been identified as among one of the five most sensitive districts in the state in respect of expenditure in LS election. A meeting of enforcement agencies was organised at collector office on Wednesday.
Presiding over the meeting, collector and district election officer Lokesh Kumar Jatav reviewed the preparedness of the agencies. At the meeting, Jatav asked monitoring agencies to keep extra vigil round the clock to conduct free and fair elections in the district. The flying squad and static surveillance teams will keep watch on movement of cash and drugs. The agencies like narcotics bureau, income tax department, railways, airport authority with their regular functions will also carry out electoral duties.
After implementation of election code of conduct, a sum of only Rs 38.60 lakh has been seized. The income tax department has seized Rs 81,000 so far. In 22 cases, 10,000 litres of illicit were seized by excise department. Collector Jattav said banks have been asked to share information of withdrawal of more than Rs 10 lakh per day with district election office.
Extraordinary and suspicious movement of cash will be monitored closely. The reports on expenditure monitoring will be shared with district election office daily through email. Representatives of railway, airport administration and narcotics departments were present in the meeting.
