Commenced on July 10, president of UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the under secretary general (USG) of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) addressed the forum and discussed the reports presented two years ago scheduled to show measurements of adoption practices and progress. Discussion on how to implement the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, key regional and sub-regional players, including representatives of UN regional commissions, exchanged regional experiences to support the implementation of the 2030 agenda Dr McGilligan shared her journey in empowering tribal women to contribute towards sustainable development. She told representatives of Indian civil society organisations about the importance of pursuing solar cooking options. The organisations released a report outlining civil society positions on SDGs.

On the strength of her successful experience in more than 500 villages in Madhya Pradesh, McGilligan shared her success story and advocated and recommended including solar cooking and food processing technologies in the civil society SDG report: Agenda 2030 India, A Civil Society Report by all Indian NGO’s.

She also recommended India’s need to place the systems and mechanism in place by involving the civil society and NGO’s at local, regional and national level and co-operation of public and private sector and corporates to these SDG’s and ensure interconnections across the 17 SDGs to be strong that the pursuit of the goals explicitly discussed below necessarily involves the promotion of other goals as well.
