Indore: Double murder case solved, three arrested

Indore: Indore Police on Sunday arrested three persons for a double murder case in Betma. The accused robbed and killed a father and his son and injured a person on July 15, 2018. Deputy Inspector General of Police Harinarayanachari Mishra on his last day at office in Indore revealed about the murder mystery while talking to media persons on Sunday.

Accused Dharmendra Sahu (28), Ravi Singh Baghel (19) and Lakhan Singh Baghel (19) were arrested for murdering and robbing grocery trader Vindhyachal Gupta (45) his son Sandeep (24) and severely injuring Vindhyachal’s father Sudama (70) at Life City Colony Billod in Betma on July 15, 2018. Acting on a tip off, police arrested Dharmendra Sahu following which he informed about involvement of his accomplices Ravi and Lakhan in the double murder and robbery.

During interrogation, police found that accused conducted recci of route three to four times on Sahu’s motorcycle. The accused were trying to find Gupta’s timing for closing his shop and reaching back home. The accused told police that on July 15, 2018, they consumed liquor after which they waited outside Gupta’s house near Life City Colony. As Gupta’s car stopped the accused attacked Vindhyachal and attempted to rob him. As Vindhyachal caught hold of Ravi, the accused attacked him and his son Sandeep with sickle and sword leading to their death.

The accused also attacked Sudama and left him severely injured. While attacking Sandeep, Lakhan’s sickle fell at the crime spot, which was later recovered by police. The attackers then took a bag of Rs 8 lakh, which Vindyanchal was carrying and fled from farms near the colony. During investigation, Lakhan and Dharmendra Sahu also confessed that on June 24, 2018, they had stolen Rs 37,000 from Vindhyachal Gupta’s SUV.

After this incident, the accused gained more confidence and decided to rob Gupta. Keeping in view the seriousness of crime, the police had announced a reward of Rs 20,000 against unidentified accused. It was increased to Rs 30,000, which was further increased to Rs 50,000. Police said Dharmendra Sahu has six other cases registered against him for robbery and theft in Dhar district.
