Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), which post-Pulwama terror attack had decided to give free education to children of martyrs but later went silent on the issue, termed it “a slip” and issued a notification extending the offer towards “fallen heroes’.
“Whatever decision was taken in the executive council meeting of DAVV regarding martyrs and armymen’s children will be followed in letter and spirit,” said vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad. He stated that the notification has been issued for giving benefits agreed upon in the EC meeting.
The DAVV’s executive council in its meeting on February 18 had unanimously decided to impart free education to children of martyrs and ex-armymen. It was also decided to charge only 50 percent of tuition fee from children of personnel serving in armed forces.
The announcement was well received by people in general and armymen in Mhow cantonment in particular. The EC had directed the university administration to ensure that the decision was implemented from session 2019-20.
But when the admission guidelines were issued by the university for admissions in its teaching departments on Khandwa Road campus, there was no mention about any fee relief to martyrs, army and ex-army personnel’s children. The reason was being that the university administration had forgotten to release notification regarding EC’s decision. On Tuesday, the DAVV corrected the mistake.
