Indore: Days after conclusion of Lok Sabha elections, a political war over electricity cuts has erupted in the city as BJP and Congress party have blamed each other for power disruption.
Local BJP leaders have said frequent power cuts in city show failure of Congress government to maintain round the clock electricity supply despite the fact that MP is a power surplus state. Congress party has termed it as a conspiracy by BJP to malign its image.
On Tuesday, BJP organised a massive protest against power cut at Rajwada wherein party activists broke television sets, distributed candles and even made symbolic bookings to buy generators.
Led by BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, BJP workers organised a mock show wherein a man who posed as chief minister Kamal Nath was touched by an electricity wire. But the man laughed and said he can’t be electrocuted as there is no electricity.
The BJP demonstrators also burnt effigy of chief minister to protest against frequent power cuts in the city.
Addressing mediapersons during protest, BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya said condition has worsened in the state in last five months of Congress government.
“Shivraj Singh’s (BJP) government provided 24-hour electricity but the Congress government has brought back darkness,” Vijayvargiya said referring to previous Congress government headed by Digvijaya Singh when power cuts were frequent.
“If BJP can order officials for power cuts, it means Congress has failed in running government and it should resign,” Vijayvargiya said responding to Congress allegation that it is BJP’s conspiracy.
BJP activists staged protest in municipal wards located in Indore assembly constituency - 3, which Vijayvargiya represents.
