Indore: Bringing a new life to earth by risking her own, mother is often described as god-like, angel, protector and more. Mother’s Day celebrates their contribution and love mother’s every year on the second Sunday of May in many countries including USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, China, Japan, Philippines, and South Africa. Celebrating mothers, who teach us every lesson of life by setting an example and making our life joyful, we spoke to some new mothers, single mothers and inspiring mothers about their experiences.

Following are their stories and experiences:

Motherhood is about experience, not genes

I was raised by my aunt (late Sumantibai Kunte), as she adopted me. There was no hiding the truth. My aunt told me about my real parents. She raised me as my own. She is the one, who sent me to dance school from the age of five following my grandfather’s ideology. My entire family follows the motto ‘life without art and literature is barely human’. I met my parents and spend time with them as well. Despite not being my birth mother, my aunt was my ideal, mother, guru and more. She is the one, who became my mother and taught me everything I know. People are not very open about adoption even now; they prefer test tube babies over adoption. However, the true essence of motherhood comes from experience and not genes as I have seen

A super mom raised by One

My experience with my motherhood is guided and inspired by my mother (Sudha Awasthi). My son (Vian) was born in the middle of a troubled marriage and uncomfortable in-laws. I had to get a divorce to bring my son into a healthy environment. It was a tough call and being a single parent wasn’t easy. While establishing my life from scratch Vian was barely two years old. There were days that I hardly met him but the times we were together it was only us. He understood and supported me. I learnt the biggest life lessons from him. Today he is 8, runs his own startup as s kid entrepreneur. We are proud of each other, of being 2 strong fighters.

Now when I look back and wonder where I got my strength from, I remember my mother’s words – “I trust you, you can do anything you wish”. Her words kept me going even on the toughest days. Now when people call me a super mom, I realise I got it all, because I was raised by one.

Whole world becomes a family eventually

I was born in Indore, lived a major part of life in California, USA and now travelling every place in India as a backpacker. I raised my son alone in California and it was a strengthening experience. My life is full of challenges, but I go through all challenges because I have mother’s heart, with qualities like love, truth , patience, fairness, caring, hard-work, judgmental and strength. Now, I feel whole world is my family and all human are close to me. They are my mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter.

Doorie’ from mother is most painful

I was raised by my grandmother, who has been a mother to me. This Mother’s Day, I sang and released a modified version of the song ‘Doorie’ originally sung by Atif Aslam. I dedicated the song to her. I remember singing the same song to her and perfecting my tone last year. But in the last year, when I lost her, I can truly feel the words of the song. Losing a mother and being away from her is the most painful experience of life.

Twins: God’s Surprise gift, says new mom

I always wanted a daughter. Since I am a planner, I had even decided a name. I had always dreamt of having a daughter and naming her ‘Vrishti’. When I had my first ultra sound and came to know about having twins, it was truly double the joy. Some people around me had quoted how difficult it is to manage twins. However, in my experience as a mother, twins are actually just twice the joy. I decided to name my other daughter as Vaanya, because it means God’s lovable gift, which she is.

Daughter brings fortune and love after 70 years

A fter 70 years, we have been blessed with a daughter in the family. The first time when my husband saw our little angel, he had tears of happiness. When a couple has a child, they often wonder if it would mean lesser time together.
However, it is not so. Rather my husband takes out more time and comes home early because of my little angel. We have named her ‘Inaya’ as it means blessing. She is our lucky charm. Since her birth, we have been blessed with good fortunate. It is true that every girl is truly a form of goddess and fortune.
