Indore: Concerned over rise in their numbers in Indore district, health department has decided to take action against four local private hospitals, which have refused to treat swine flu patients. Addressing mediapersons after taking review meeting over swine flu at Residency Kothi on Saturday, state health minister Tulsi Silawat said it is unfortunate that four hospitals out of 19 empanelled hospitals expressed inability to treat swine flu patients.

“We will take action against Life Care Hospital, Synergy Hospital, Global SNG Hospital and Arpan Hospital. We will try to know reasons why hospitals have denied treatment and then act accordingly,” Silawat said. He also expressed concern over delay in issuance of sample test reports and said samples will be sent to a private laboratory to get them quickly.

“Starting from Saturday, we will take two samples of patients and will send one sample to a private laboratory in Indore and other to All India Institute of Medical Science, Bhopal. The local lab will provide sample report in three hours and treatment of patient will start immediately then,” he added.

The health minister said officials have been told to take every possible step to treat patients and to start a control room for it. Divisional commissioner Akash Tripathi will be head of the committee, which will monitor swine flu cases and will take appropriate action in case of negligence.

Peon ferries samples to lab

The health minister expressed displeasure over the fact that peon, a class IV employee, takes samples to Bhopal for tests in laboratory. He said a trained staff member should be assigned this task and a separate vehicle should be allocated for the purpose.

Swine flu lab

The health minister announced to set up swine flu laboratory in the city in next six to seven months. The health department will coordinate with medical education department for this.
