Green Corridor helps two to breathe life

Indore : Organs of the city’s girl were successful transplanted in the body of a Mumbai teenager and an elderly man in Delhi after the creation of Green Corridor in the city for the third time on Sunday.

The Corridor was prepared twice for the speedy transportation of heart and lever to the city airport from Choithram Hospital. The first ambulance carrying heart reached the airport in just 8 minutes whiile the second ambulance carrying lever reached the airport in 8.30 minutes.

The district administration claimed that the heart was transported to more than 600 kms for the first time in the country.

The administration also claimed that three Green Corridors were prepared for the first time in three different cities of the country for transporting organs to save lives.

“This is for the first time when the organs were transplanted to patients in two different states belonging to economically weaker class,” secretary of Organ Donation Society Dr Sanjay Dixit said.

Organs of 20-year-old brain dead girl Soniya Chauhan were retrieved on Saturday night and were flown to Mumbai and Delhi on Sunday morning.

She was declared brain dead on Saturday morning in MY Hospital when she received critical head injuries by falling from stairs at her residence.

A team of doctors from Fortis Hospital, Mumbai and Institute of Lever, New Delhi reached Choithram Hospital at about 10 pm on Saturday night and started the retrieval of organs in the mid-night.

Initially, the heart was harvested by the doctors and it was taken to the airport at 7.10 am. Just a few minutes after transporting the heart, another team of doctors left Choithram Hospital with the lever for airport.

Heart given to 16-old-girl, lever to 48-yr old man Dr Sanjay Dixit, coordinator of the successful transplant, informed media that the heart of Sonia Chauhan was successfully transplanted to a 16-year-old girl, resident of Vikhroli, in Fortis Hospital, Mumbai.

“The girl who received the heart was suffering from congenital heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which heart’s ability to pump blood is decreased. As per the doctors of Fortis Hospital, the transplant was successful and she is under observation for 42-78 hours,” Dr Dixit said. He added that the lever was transplanted successfully to a 48-year-old man of Delhi at Institute of Lever and Biliary Science. “This is for the first time when both the receivers as well as donor belong to economically weaker section,” he said adding “Indore Organ Donation Society will also provide Rs 3 lakh health insurance to the parents of Sonia Chauhan.”
