Indore : After the Pratima episode, PCCF Narendra Kumar has issued orders to carry out census of elephants in the district. Now, the Forest Department is gearing up to count the animals.
The district forest department would need to carry out the census and report to the PCCF, soon. When contacted the department officials said that the procedures for the same would be initiated soon.
The procedures include contacting various Mahouts and gathering information from them. Apart from this, the forest officials would also cross-check on the availability of legal documents with the mahouts roaming in the city with elephants.
In addition, Pratima’s mahout would also be approached for the task.
Injured cow-elephant, Pratima was recovered by some members of an NGO recently. They later informed the Forest Department and the Zoo officials. After a brief friction between the two departments, Pratima was shifted to the zoo where her medications began.
After this, Pratima was shifted to an elephant sanctuary in Mathura for further medication and care. Now, the forest officials are keen to start procedures for the census of elephants at the earliest.
