Indore : A local court on Tuesday sentenced a youth to life imprisonment for raping a 7-year-old girl nearly five years after the crime was committed.
Special judge AK Paliwal handed down the sentence to 29-year-old Nitin Yadav of Mhow and also imposed a penalty of Rs 1000 on him. The incident took place on November 16, 2010.
The minor girl was playing outside her house with other kids when her neighbour Nitin took her to a deserted location and raped her.
When the victim informed her mother about the incident, a complaint was lodged with Mhow police. The accused, who absconded after the incident, was arrested and a chargesheet was filed in the court.
Public Prosecutor Vishal Shrivastava said the medical report of the victim confirmed rape with her. On the basis of report and statements of the victim and witnesses, the court sentenced Yadav to life imprisonment.
