Indore : A constable on Sunday was caught while taking an amount of Rs 6000 as bribe while his colleague fled the scene seeing the Lok Ayukta police who had laid a trap to nab the corrupt cops.
The accused, Dharmendra Singh Yadav, was nabbed from Annapurna temple premises when he was sharing the bribe amount with his colleague Sher Singh.
The duo had sought bribe from one Ankur Hirwani for letting him to run an alleged illegal hookah joint from his house.
They had also taken Rs 35,000 from Hirwani in installments. They would blackmail him to register a case against him if he would not grease their palms.
When their blackmailing tactics did not stop, Hirwani lodged a complaint with the Lok Ayukta police stating that Yadav and Sher Singh had asked for a bribe of Rs 6000 from him. He was called to Annapurna temple with the amount on Sunday.
Moved by the complaint, the Lok Ayukta police laid a trap to nab the corrupt policemen. They sent Hirwani with the demanded amount to the temple located near Annapurna police station. Hirwani gave the amount and left the temple premises. As Yadav and Sher Singh got busy in distributing the bribe, the Lok Ayukta sleuths roaming in civil dress on the temple premises rushed towards them to nab them red-handed. Seeing the sleuths, Sher Singh threw the currency notes and ran away from the scene but Yadav was caught.
“Both the cops have been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act,” BS Parihar, DSP, Lok Ayukta said.
Hirwani claimed that he did not run any illegal hookah joint but himself smoke hookah at his house.
