Indore : The city once again opened its arms to save several lives by arranging speedy transportation of liver and kidney by setting up Green Corridor on Friday. This time, twelve-year-old Darshan Gurjar became the youngest donor of the city to donate his organs after being declared brain dead on Friday morning.

District administration, traffic police, Choithram Hospital administration, NGO Muskan Group and the residents of the city coordinated to make the second Green Corridor of the month and fourth in the city.

Liver of Darshan Gurjar was transported to Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi, while kidneys were transplanted to patients in Choithram Hospital and Greater Kailash Hospital. Skin and cornea of the boy was also retrieved by the hospital and will be transplanted soon.

The first Green Corridor was prepared between Choithram Hospital and City Airport at 9.32 pm for transporting the liver which was flown to New Delhi by a flight of Indigo Airlines at 10:10 pm.

The ambulance covered the 14 kilometer stretch in 9 minutes by reaching the hospital at 9:41 pm.

According to the transplant coordinator and ICU in-charge Dr Ratan Sahajpal, “Darshan, a resident of Nagin Nagar, was admitted to the hospital on January 16 with severe head injury following an accident at Nemawar Road. He was getting treatment under Dr Ankit Gupta and was unconscious since the time of admission.”

He said that the doctors declared Darshan brain dead at 10 am initially and the brain dead committee confirmed it at 10.30 am.

“He was declared brain dead at 4.30 pm for the second time after which we coordinated the doctors of Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences who reached the city at 6.30 pm. The procedure was started at 7:50 pm,” Dr Sahajpal said.
