Indore : Indore is all set to get a train to compensate termination of Indore-Habibganj Double-Decker train. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, in principle, has given consent to the proposal. This new train is in addition to the earlier demands.
However, the destination of this train is not yet decided. There was unhappiness among local people when the Railway Board decided to stop operation of the Double Decker.
Respecting the sentiment of people, the Railway Minister has decided to give one more train to compensate the Double-Decker train and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will decide the destination of the new train.
According to sources, Mahajan is exploring those destinations which are still not directly linked to the city.
Earlier, it was assumed that the new train will run between Indore and Bhopal like Double-Decker but the idea was dropped as there are five trains already running between these two stations.
The second possibility was Indore-Surat route but this too was turned down.
According to sources, the railways authority is trying some untapped routes— Indore-Guwahati and Indore-Bhubaneswar. The formal announcement about the destination of the proposed train would be possible by the end of this month and it is likely to be rolled out from the New Year.
Earlier, the Railway Board decided to terminate operation of Indore-Habibganj Double Decker train following severe loss. Though, the official announcement for termination is not yet made, yet its operation is suspended till March 31, 2016. Three coaches and one 1 generator van of the train have been sent to Mumbai.
