Indore : Anant Chaturdashi procession and heavy rainfall brought road traffic to a standstill in the city, on Monday. Streets in the outskirt of the city were chocked with vehicles for about two hours starting from Khadwa Road to Bengali Square. People who took up diverted route as instructed by the Traffic cops had to spend their evening juggling to get out of the erratic traffic in order to reach home.
Incessant rainfall added to the chaos as prominent squares on Ring Road were water logged making it difficult for the commuters to get out of the jam. The under construction bridge of Teen Imli added more trouble to people.
Majority of people, who were stuck, were those who were returning after immersion of Ganpati.
Although, a handful of volunteers at Bengali Square took over the charge of channelizing the traffic at Bengali Square and helped thousands of commuters to clear the traffic menace that structured from early evening.
A similar situation was also observed in the BRTS lane especially in front of Zoo, Gangwal bus stand and Collectorate as two days of heavy rainfall led to water logging in these areas.
The day-long rain brought smile on the faces of people but commuters faced difficulty due to festive fever for Anant Chaturdashi.
