Indore : Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday directed the Union government to address the issues related to citizenship of migrant Pakistani Hindus within four months and also instructed Indore district administration to expedite the verification and identification process.

Citing the delay in grant of Indian citizenship to migrant Pakistani Hindus, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the court by Pujya Jacobabad Zila Sindhi Panchayat that works for the welfare of the migrant Sindhis.

Following the PIL, the court had issued notices to Union home ministry, external affairs ministry, government of India and the government of Madhya Pradesh. The Union government on Tuesday filed an affidavit before the court informing it that a Special Task Force (STF) was constituted to expedite the citizenship issues of the migrant Pakistani Hindus.

Counsel for the petitioner, Raghvendra Singh Raghuvanshi said some of the migrants have been granted Indian citizenship but their children are still deprived of it. A double bench of Justice PK Jaiswal and Justice Alok Verma directed to address the issues in four months.
