Indore : Olive oil is claimed as healthy oil for heart and its use can lower heart diseases but before buying olive oil from the market, beware.
The Food and Drug administration collected some samples of olive oil of a branded company and out found it sub-standard as it contained harmful fatty acids more than the permitted limit.
Samples of olive oil were taken about two months ago. According to Senior Food Safety Officer Manish Swami, samples of ‘Olive Natural’ brand was collected about two months ago from the depot of Modi Naturals, the manufacturer. “We sent them for lab testing in Bhopal and found it substandard as it contained more fatty acid then the permitted level. We have also sent notice to the company to go through a re-test but no action has been taken by the company yet,” Swami said.
Unclaimed mawa destroyed
Swami said that the department had destroyed 500 kg mawa seized from a bus of Intercity Travels about a fortnight ago.
“The seized mawa was tested sub-standard and it was also unclaimed. We had to preserve it for a long time but we destroyed it on Saturday at Trenching Ground following the orders from the designated officer, CMHO,” he added.
