Indore : Rajendra Nagar police on Friday night nabbed six persons for posing as Crime Branch officials and extorting money from innocent public.

The matter came to light when one Pushpabai, a resident of New Bheem Nagar, called the beat patrol and told them that some persons, posing as Crime Branch officials were demanding Rs 10,000 from her and they took away Rs 5000 from her wallet.

The beat constables intercepted the men who claimed to be members of the Human Rights Commission and flashed their identity cards. Thereafter the constables escorted the men and Pushpabai to the police station.

In her statement to the police, Pushpabai stated that she made her living as a maid. On Friday night, when she was with her husband Manohar and son Sandeep, the six accused knocked her door.

Claiming to be Crime Branch officials, the men told her that her son was engaged in illegal activities and they wanted to take him to the police station. When she begged not to do so, they told her to pay up a fine of Rs 10,000. When she claimed that she did not have enough money, they beat up Sandeep.

After much begging and crying, the men asked for Rs 5000 upfront and therefore she had run to her neighbour to borrow the money. It was while returning she chanced upon the beat patrol and sought their help. At the police station the men were asked to produce their identity cards which they could not.

The six men were identified as Dilip Singh Tomar (27) of Sainath Colony, Rau, Shivam Patidar (20) of Dharampuri, Shobhit Pandey (22) of Silicon City, Faim Mansoori (20) of Bijalpur, Sachin Patidar (23) of Gwali Palasia, Mhow and Sandeep Giri (18) of Indorama, Mandalawada.

All six have been booked under Section 384 of the IPC and arrested. The police also recovered Rs 5000 along with identity cards of the Human Rights Commission from their possession.
