Indore  :In the case of death of an engineer due to negligence by police and two hospitals, DIG Santosh Kumar Singh suspended three cops of Vijay Nagar police station, including an ASI, here on Thursday.

Family members of the engineer also demanded a probe into the matter and action against the guilty.

Sourabh Suryavanshi, a resident of Bhagirathpura, was injured in a road mishap in Vijay Nagar area, on December 31. Two cops of Vijay Nagar police station had rushed Sourabh to a private hospital from where doctors referred him to MY Hospital claiming him unidentified.

Later, he was admitted to MY Hospital but didn’t get proper treatment due to negligence by the staff and thus died on the campus. Police also conducted his post-mortem as an unidentified person and kept his body in the mortuary.

Souarbh’s brother Sandeep said, “Sourabh was hit by a police officer’s car after which cops kept his ID card with them and rushed him to the hospital claiming him as an unidentified person.” He alleged that police also thrashed Sourabh due to which he lost his conscious.

Sourabh died on January 4 but the family members learnt about the incident only when they reached MY Hospital’s mortuary on Wednesday.

Acting on the complaint of family members, DIG suspended ASI Silmanas Khaka, head constable Jabar Singh and constable Hariom Dibey and also directed the senior officials to probe into the matter.

Family members performed last rites of Sourabh on Thursday.
