New Delhi: The BJP was not in favour of toppling a stable (UPA) government but it could go due to its own internal contradictions, party president Rajnath Singh said Tuesday.

“The BJP doesn’t want to destabilise a stable government but we would not be  responsible if it goes due to its internal contradictions. It is a loss to exchequer if there are frequent polls,” Rajnath Singh told NDTV.

Stating that the BJP was ready for early general elections, Rajnath Singh said there was “no chance of the UPA government coming back”.

“We are ready to face early polls,” he said, adding that only the BJP could give an alternative government at the centre. “We do politics not only to form government but also to build nation.”

Corruption, economy and security will be the main issues in the next Lok Sabha  polls, scheduled in 2014, he said.

It was difficult to predict the move of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which support the United Progressive Alliance from outside, he said.

“They are supporting the Congress due to fear as there is no reason for them to support the government,” said Rajnath Singh.

Stating that his party was in favour of economic reforms, the BJP president said  senior leaders would decide on the pension and insurance bills.

“We are not against reforms but no reforms should increase economic disparity and unemployment,” he said. “We play a constructive opposition,” he said.

He said senior leader L.K. Advani kept pushing the party to do better.

“We need to put in more effort to go to the people,” said Rajnath Singh.
