Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday met with the DMs and the SPs to take stock of COVID-19 situation and the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas in West Bengal.
Addressing the media, the TMC supremo said that due to Cyclone Yaas damage worth upto 20 thousand crore has been done in West Bengal and she also urged the DMs to supervise the reconstructions at the earliest.
“329 river dams are being reconstructed. Digha being a tourist spot needs to be renovated at the earliest. 1200 relief camps are made where almost two lakh people have taken shelter. Almost 2.21 lakh hectares of crops are damaged. Relief at doorstep camps will be set up only at those areas which are badly affected,” stated the West Bengal Chief Minister. She also asked all the DMs and SPs to conduct two virtual meetings every week to take stock of the situation.
Mamata also mentioned that through Niti Aayog, the TMC government will set up 500 flood centres.
“We will try to set up more cold storages and warehouses so that no more crops get destroyed in future. Cyclones are coming every year and we will also try to set up 500 flood centers with the help of Niti Aayog as a future preparedness,” added Mamata. She also said that she didn’t ask anything from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and left it at his discretion.
Speaking about the pandemic situation, the TMC supremo said that the state government will spend 114 crore rupees and will procure 22 lakh vaccines in June.
“So far 1 crore 41 lakh people got vaccinated and 40 lakh people in West Bengal even got the second dose. So far we have bought 18 lakh vaccines and in June we will buy more 22 lakh vaccines. The active and death rate due to Covid in West Bengal has gone down due to the restriction,” added West Bengal Chief Minister.
The TMC supremo also allowed relaxations to retail shops and they are allowed to be open from 12 pm to 3 pm and said that the IT sector can operate with 10 per cent staff.
Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh slammed the TMC government for 'mismanagement' in curbing the pandemic and also claimed that due to negligence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee several vaccines expired in the storage centre.
Notably, in the last 24 hours, West Bengal has recorded 10,137 new cases and 131 new deaths.
