GANDHINAGAR : Gujarat Deputy Inspector General of Police D G Vanzara, who figures as accused in numerous fake encounter cases and retired while in judicial custody has dropped a bombshell with his statement that the current president of the BJP, Amit Shah, may have been discharged by the CBI court but remains ”very much an accused  in the Sohrabuddin-Tulsiram encounter case even today”.

In a warning, he points out that as “officers of the state we simply carried out our duty of waging war against those who waged war against the state in pursuit of the policy of zero tolerance of terrorism voiced by the state. But we now get the impression that the state by denying promotion to the eligible amongst us, is now waging war against us. Such a treachery and treason from the side of the state will not be tolerated by us and will be opposed tooth and nail”, he adds.

Vanzara states “nowadays national interests  are sacrificed on the altar of party interests, party interests are sacrificed on the altar of group interests and group interests are sacrificed on the altar of individual interests. And that is how dirty politics operates everywhere in the country from top to bottom.”

In a letter addressed to the Gujarat additional chief secretary (Home) G R Aloria,Vanzara has pointed out that the law is very clear that even if discharged by the CBI court and later even the High Court  and Supreme Court, even thereafter they can be arraigned and called back as accused by the trial court” and made to stand besides us to face trial at an appropriate stage”.

Vanzara has accused the then minister of state for Home in Gujarat and present BJP chief Amit Shah, DGP PC Pande and recently promoted DGP Geetha Johri of forming a trio that “created a sorry state of affairs  for the Gujarat Police in general and the accused police officers and men who put their careers on the line giving importance to national interests”.

Vanzara has taken strong exception to the selective supersession of additional DGP P P Pandey who was his boss in the Ahmedabad crime branch and was arrested and spent time in judicial custody before being bailed and reinstated. He was recently superseded and Johri and Pramod Kumar promoted over his head.”The supersession of Pandey is unlawful whom I know to be one of the finest and rarest police officers of Gujarat. Denial of promotion to him is tantamount to his humiliation.
