NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya gave an indication on Wednesday that he was no pushover. In a series of tweets, he underscored that States are making "useless statements" on vaccine shortfall and creating unnecessary public alarm."

He further accused states of "mismanagement" and said they had been informed of available supplies in advance but had failed to plan accordingly. ‘‘This information was provided in advance, "so that states know very well when, and in what quantity, they will get vaccine doses", the Health Minister said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently to say the southern state is not being allotted enough vaccine doses. Delhi had closed some of the inoculation centres the other day, flagging off Covishield shortages. Maharashtra, Bengal, Punjab and Jharkhand have raised similar concerns.
