Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Crying foul over Harish Rawat led Congress government’s bias behaviour, rebel MLAs of the grand old party on Thursday said that the state dispensation overlooked their say and disqualified them unconstitutionally.
Rebel Congress MLA Shailendra Mohan Singh while talking to ANI said that the Rawat government resorted to unconstitutional behaviour.
“The Appropriation Bill failed, Governor mentioned in his report that 35 MLA’s voted against the Appropriation Bill after which a constitutional problem rose and then President’s rule was implemented in the state. Subsequent to this result of a sting operation came in front of us in which the Harish Rawat government was seen horse trading,” said Singh.
“We have registered our plea with the High Court. We were disqualified without being heard this is unconstitutional. However, we have registered our plea with the High Court and believe that it will give us justice and will once again give us a chance to table our say when a constitutional government is formed,” he added.
Resonating similar sentiments, another rebel MLA Subodh Uniyal accused the Uttarakhand government of violating the Constitution.
“When we said that the majority opposed the Appropriation Bill the government did not listen to us. We nine MLA’s are not alone, we will take a decision that will be in the interest of the common man. Congress is making fake claims. Time will give answer to them,” Uniyal said.
The Congress Party has accused the Centre of murdering democracy by imposing President’s rule in the state.
A two-judge bench of the Nainital High Court had yesterday stayed the floor test for the Harish Rawat Government in the Uttarakhand assembly, which was scheduled for March 31, and decided to take up the matter on April 6.
The crisis in the hill state erupted on March 18 when nine Congress MLAs rebelled against the Rawat government, resulting in a flip-flop in the passage of the Appropriation Bill.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Governor K.K. Paul on the same day and staked claim to form a government.
However, the Centre imposed President’s Rule last Sunday, a day before Rawat was supposed to take the floor test in the Assembly.
