New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday slammed the dual policy of PM Modi writing a letter to his Pakistan counterpart on Friday even while his government boycotted the Pakistan national day event in its high commission here since the Kashmiri separatists were invited.
“Modi ji, stop writing love letters to Pakistan,” Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, noting that “this self-styled Chowkidar said not a word on the Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the letter he wrote to Imran Khan secretly without telling the nation about it.”
He said this “Mr 56″ of the Sari-Shawl impromptu Pak visit for birthday (of then Pak PM Nawaz Sharif) and famed diplomacy if inviting ISI (Pak Army’s intelligence agency) to Pathankot was feeling very shy yesterday.” “Guess? #Chowkidar hid the fact that he had wished Pak PM on Pak National Day without a word on Pak terrorism.” “Muscular politics soap opera for people & media only,” Surjewala added.
Contrary to Surjewala”s claim of no word on terrorism, Modi did talk of the region “free of terror and violence” but did not ask Pakistan PM to stop sponsoring terrorism to India. Modi did not put his message on his Twitter handle as he usually does or in the PMO statement hoping that it will remain a private message hidden from the public eye, but Imran Khan spilled the beans by mentioning it in a tweet.
Imran Khan’s tweet: “Received msg from PM Modi: I extend my greetings & best wishes to the people of Pakistan on the National Day o Pakistan. It is time that ppl of Sub-continent work together for a democratic, peaceful, progressive & prosperous region, in an atmosphere free of terror and violence.”
