New Delhi: The Supreme court today confirmed five years of jail to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in 1993 serial bomb blast case. Dutt was to serve a sentence of six years which has been reduced to five years. Dutt had already served a jail sentence of a year-and-a-half.
The Supreme Court also confirmed the death sentence of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon and commuted the death sentence of 10 others. Dutt has to surrender within the next four weeks.
An anti-terror TADA court had in 1993 awarded death sentence to 12 people, including Memon. One of them has passed away. The death sentence of 10 has been commuted to life imprisonment.
The apex court said Yakub, younger brother ofTiger Memon, was the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
Condemning the role of Pakistan in the blasts, the SC reportedly said: It is clear that ISI training was given to the accused in Islamabad. Confessions of terrorists reveal ISI encouraged terrorism.
