Jaipur: A crematorium committee in Rajasthan's Bhilwara has come up with the idea to turn funeral ashes into manure, rather than just letting it flow in the river. This initiative has been taken by the committee of Panchmukhi Mokshdham of the city. This Mokshdham is known for its greenery and facilities.
The manure is made with a mix of ashes and cow dung and will be used for plants in city parks.
People of the city come here for morning walk and yoga. It has a reading room as well. It is one of the most clean and green crematoriums of Rajasthan.
BL Jaaju, the secretary of the committee and an environmental activist said that more than 500 funerals took place in this crematorium during the last 2 months of the second wave of COVID-19. "Many families did not turn up to collect the ashes and we have now around 300 bags of funeral ashes, which we will use to make manure", he said.
Till now committee used to flow these ashes in the Triveni river as the quantity used to be very less, but this time it is too much.
"If we flow these ashes in the river it would have polluted the water of the river, so we have decided to send it to a Cow shelter where it will be mixed with cow dung to make manure and will be used for the plants in the city parks, thus we are saving river as well as plants and using it in a much productive way" said Jaaju.
He claims that this kind of ash is very good for plant growth and if one mixes it with cow dung it becomes more useful.
